The Final Ride
I had the privilege of spending two days with Susan and her family as she prepared and participated in her last horse show, which had been her life for the previous 40 plus years. I was introduced to a whole new world! Although she was in her final stages of ALS, she persevered with determination, strength, and class. Susan came out on top (as done many times in the past), taking the title of Western Pleasure Ladies World Champion. Less than six weeks later, she rode into a better place, where she no longer has to suffer with the effects of Lou Geurig’s disease. This was, by far, the most emotional session I’ve been a part of, both during and after. The feelings of losing a parent to an evil disease came rushing back.
